Making our way South

Winter is here, and Kansas has snow on the ground. Jeremy does not have much of an opportunity to make money in the immediate area, so we decided to make a trip visiting friends coupled with bearing down on positive opportunities to relieve the drought on our banking account. It also gave us joy to leave the snow behind and feel the sun on our face. We jumped on the thought to pack the golf clubs, even though our space was limited. We left our home Jan. 6, 2010, purposely to miss the ice and snow moving into the Wichita area. We needed to be in Lafayette, La., by the weekend for Jeremy to compete in a tourney at White Diamond Billiards. We had two routes in mind: the first was through Oklahoma City to Houston and on, and the second was to Shreveport to possibly visit family and then on to Lafayette. After a quick discussion, we chose to go through Oklahoma City since we could stop over in Houston for the few days before the tournament. When we got in Ok City, we stopped for a rest in a local poolroom where Jeremy and Joey Gray played a bit. The next day, Jeremy and I burned rubber to Houston for a day before we headed to Lafayette. Friday night we had a nice dinner reunion with Jeremy's nieces while we were in Louisiana. Jeremy started the tourney Saturday defending his title from the previous event. Jeremy earned 5th place this time around. Although he did not get as far in the winner's circle, he was able to get some action on the side. As soon as he was defeated and out, Gary Abood woofed at him for a money game. They played some 10-ball, then one-pocket until wee hours of the morning. Jeremy came out on top each time!
Monday morning Jeremy and I drove deliriously towards Houston to get ready for John Newsome's justice of the peace wedding in Conroe, TX, at 2 p.m. I started the drive, but shortly into the drive Jeremy had to take over. He was still feeling his second wind from playing Abood. Jeremy and I arrived at Drew's house, Jeremy's brother, with just enough time to make ourselves presentable for the ceremony. After the ceremony was complete, we joined the new couple and their crew for a midday meal in the Woodlands to celebrate. It was nice; however, kinda weird they didn't offer to pay for our food and drinks, especially since Jeremy was the Best Man! Money is sparse for us all, come on. We might have passed on the restaurant, if we knew ahead of time it was dutch.
While we were in town, Jeremy tried matched up against Silver Ochoa playing some one-pocket. They played singles, the played partners against each other. Jeremy was successful on the singles match up, but not so lucky on the partners. He also played and won the LoneStar 10-ball 2010 headliner held at QStix Billiards.
The following Thursday we were suppose to leave Houston for a black tie event in Abilene, TX. We did not make it to the event, instead we returned to Houston to attend a funeral. Sadly, Drew's live-in girlfriend, Ashlea Doty, took her own life in the early a.m. of the day we started our drive. It has been despair and devastation for Drew, who is left behind to pick up the pieces. Jeremy has been staying with Drew the entire time to help him as much as possible in dealing with the heartache. I have been staying at Sheina Olivera's "Bed and Breakfast," lol. Tomorrow morning, Friday, Jeremy and I will begin making our climb home to Wichita, KS. My sister, Ashley, relayed the news forecast on the weather warnings for the area. It is suppose to receive a foot of snow. After speaking to Jeremy about the hazardous roads, we decided to take our time and possibly stop at a casino on the way. God, bless the road we will be traveling!

New Years 2010

Well, the year 2010 started off slow moving. I was completely exhausted from the end of 2009 holiday festivities. By the time New Years Eve came, I just wanted to relax close to home and stay warm, so we joined our neighbor for their party. It was nice, except my sister went to spend the highlight of the night with some of her friends. The hand on the clock did not pass too far past the top of the hour before I was showered and in bed snuggling with my hubby. My eyes closed with hopes that 2010 would be a miraculous year!
